Around 260 yards beyond the Aldershot Railway Bridge, the road bridge is reached carrying Government Road, a minor road from Aldershot to Ash.
The bridge is a simple flat-deck functional structure.
From the canal the bridge is partially hidden by a couple of service pipes.
Immediately behind the road bridge is Ash Lock, the 29th and last lock on the canal. There are no more locks during the 14¼ miles until the end of navigation is reached just half a mile before Greywell Tunnel
Just by the slipway is this crane. An original, preserved from the working days of canals - but not the Basingstoke. It used to be on the Oxford Canal and was rescued from there some years ago.
200 yards or so upstream from Ash Lock may be found some old barges dating from the canal's working days.
Just a few yards further on and the canal narrows for a few yards.
This was to allow stop planks to be inserted when work was required on the lock or the winding hole area, rather than having to drain the whole of this long pound.
Then, after the canal curves further to the left, is the site of an Army bridge. This was Sylvester's Bridge, built in 1941 by the Army, and demolished in the 1990s.
One mile from Ash Lock and Queen's Avenue Bridge is reached.
