Summer Camp 2001

This year the two summer camps, organised by the waterway recovery group concentrated on finishing the work at the Woodham pumping station, and on starting the new back-pumping project at St Johns. This has been made possible by some financial savings made during the Woodham project.

The first task is at the top of the St Johns flight of 7 locks, between Kiln Bridge and Lock 11.

Here a hole is dug for the outlet chamber.

  INFORMATION
The pictures on this page were shot with a digital 'webcam'. This is supplied by Serif and called a 'PenCam 2' made by Aiptek.

It takes 26 shots at 'high resolution' producing .bmp files, 640 x 480. Alternatively it can take 100 'low resolution' (320 x 240) pictures. In 'continuous mode' it will take video (AVI) in low resolution (100 frames), but there is no sound facility.

As Gary said, all he does is twiddle the knobs!

But it's what happens at the other end.....

Meanwhile Roy Sutton checks levels.

Peter Redway, the Chairman of the Surrey & Hampshire Canal Society, and in charge of the site, records for 'posterity' - it was a hot day....

Gary made short work of the hole, hope the piling holds the canal back.....

Then a boater, waiting to go through the lock, tied up alongside. There were other, quieter places to rest.....

There is no record of what Robin Higgs said.....

And so the first working day drew to a close.
