Each year the Inland Waterways Association (IWA) holds the National Waterways Festival and Inland Boat Show.

This event is organised to promote awareness of the inland waterways, and in order to draw attention to local issues concerning waterways the event is held in a different location each year.

In 2001 it was held in the Newlands Park at Milton Keynes, over the August Bank Holiday weekend, Sat 24th - Mon 27th. The site bordered the Grand Union Canal.
